Hello everyone!

I am pleased to announce the winner of the December writing competition as Sheryl Jumangito from The Philippines.

Sheryl’s answer was well-structured, grammatically accurate with relevant content and good use of vocabulary.

We hope that the prize of a 3-month Key Member Subscription will help Sheryl to attain the IELTS score that she needs when she takes the test for the second time.

Thank you to the other iPass members who participated in the competition. The entries were a very high standard and we wish you all the very best of luck in your forthcoming exams.

Don’t worry if you missed this competition. We will soon be announcing another one so keep watching this space!

Best wishes,

Jenny

Hi there,

The best way to learn new vocabulary and to understand how it is used in context is to read authentic material. Try short magazine or news articles and focus on a particular area of vocabulary which you can record.

For example, try noting down all nouns ending in -tion or all regular -ed verbs.

Try to look for vocabulary patterns. For example, which verbs can also be made into adjectives and nouns. Do they always have the same ending?

Record similar vocabulary together perhaps by having a different page in your notebook for different topics. This will hopefully make it more memorable when you try and recall it to use again.

Best wishes,

Jenny
